Men's Vests: Quilted, Down & Performance | Saint Bernard

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a men's vest fit?

A vest should follow the body closely enough to layer under a jacket but leave the arms completely free. Check that the armhole sits clean against a shirt without gaping. Down and quilted styles need a little more room.

What types of vests does this collection include?

The collection covers down and synthetic quilted vests, fleece vests, knit and sweater vests, softshell styles, and lighter tailored vests worn as a layer rather than for warmth.

When is a vest the right layer?

A vest warms the core while leaving the arms unrestricted, which suits golf, shoulder season weather, and anything involving movement. It also layers under a jacket in deep cold without adding bulk at the sleeve.

What materials are used in men's vests?

Quilted vests use nylon shells with down or synthetic fill. Fleece vests use brushed polyester. Sweater vests appear in merino, cotton, and wool blends. Softshell styles add stretch and light weather resistance.

How should a vest be cared for?

Down vests need a down specific cleaner and a low tumble with dryer balls to restore loft. Fleece machine washes cold with no fabric softener. Knit and sweater vests should be hand washed and laid flat to dry.

What should I wear a vest with?

A quilted vest works over a button down or quarter zip with chinos. A fleece vest suits weekends and travel. A knit sweater vest layers over a collared shirt for a more considered look in fall.
