Miami Travels

Welcome to Miami

Known for its gorgeous white sand beaches, active nightlife and extravagant pool parties, Miami showed us a lot of other fun things it has to offer. Miami is close to most Caribbean islands that are known for crystal clear water and gorgeous beaches. Being so geographically close gives you all of those traits without having to leave the US.

A couple girlfriends and I snuck away to this Art Deco capital for a quick weekend trip and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. We stayed on South Beach which is just a short car ride over the bridge from Downtown Miami. The ride over the bridge is really breathtaking, especially at night. It is also a port for cruise ships heading to much more tropical destinations, sigh.

" It is actually called the Cruise Capital of the World and serves nearly 5 million people a year."

Nonetheless we had the best time staying on South Beach. Our hotel was a bit more funky and modern that some of the other more Art Deco spots on the strip, but boy was it beautiful. I think the more appropriate word would be “swanky”. It was so interesting to walk down the strip and see all the unique hotels and restaurants that visitors have been enjoying for so many years. There's something about all those bright pastels and fun architecture that lets you escape your daily routine and truly enjoy your vacation. Not only that, but you can get swept away in a day dream picturing yourself driving all the fancy cars the reside in Miami. They sure know how to show off!

The Shelbourne had it all. The pool, the lounge, the bar, but most importantly is was right on the beach. I mean, what else did we go for right? Although we had close access to the beach outside the hotel, one of my favorite parts was visiting Nikki Beach. Here you can rent a cabana with VIP service and soak up the sun all day long. How dreamy are these lounge beds? Sticking to the tradition of all white, I grabbed my LSpace Parker Top (available in 3 additional colors) and Monique bottoms (available in 2 additional colors) to go for a dip. My friends and I weren’t the only ones staying close to shore. SHARKK!! Just kidding, well sort of. The water was so crystal clear that we saw a few nursing sharks swimming right next to us! It’s hard not get sqeemish in that situation, but we kept it together enough to get a pretty cool video.

Next to check off on the Miami bucket list was the Museum of Ice Cream. This museum gives you a serious escape from reality. Can you believe that you can swim in a pool of sprinkles? Okay, they’re plastic, but nothing will make you feel like a child more than sampling ice cream (in liquid form, mochi balls, milkshake and a classic cone) all day while truly embracing the vibrant colors and silly activities. There were 4, yes 4, levels to this modern day fun house. All rooms filled with different photo ops and more colored walls than you’ve seen in a lifetime. Popsicles hanging from the ceiling, ice cream trucks made of pink sparkly sand, and giant ice cream cone fans were just some of the fun details! My favorite part was how clever each piece of the museum was, from the ice cream inspired nicknames and banana split caution signs, it was all so thoughtful. This swing was just the cherry on top of the whole tour!

Our trip would not have been complete without visiting the urban art graffiti at Wynwood Walls. The urban art and intricate murals are not only stunning, but they have a really great story being them. “The Wynwood Walls was conceived by the renowned community revitalizer and placemaker, the late Tony Goldman in 2009. He was looking for something big to transform the warehouse district of Wynwood, and he arrived at a simple idea: “Wynwood’s large stock of warehouse buildings, all with no windows, would be my giant canvases to bring to them the greatest street art ever seen in one place.” Starting with the 25th–26th Street complex of six separate buildings, his goal was to create a center where people could gravitate to and explore, and to develop the area’s pedestrian potential.” It was some of the most interesting graffiti any of us had ever seen!

We ended the weekend at a fabulous pool party at the SLS hotel. It was beautiful! Picture private cabanas, giant swan floats, and delicious cocktails. We had a blast and it was the best way to end the weekend.
